From their rural apothecary, Arabella and Charlotte create a unique range of products to care for and nourish the skin - at every stage in life.
Raven Botanicals is more than skin deep; it is a tribute to our upbringing, a love of nature, and a commitment to improving the lives of others through self care. Our resilience, creativity, and deep-rooted connection with the land, make our products unique in form and philosophy.
In a world where 72% of people struggle with low self-esteem linked to skin health (British Skin Foundation), we believe that everyone deserves to feel confident in their skin. We are here to change that narrative with our high-performance, plant-based skincare range.
Influenced by our Mum's encyclopaedic knowledge of plants and our Dad's landscape-inspired sculpture, we turned a childhood passion for plant-based potions into a botanical skincare range focused on skin health and positive self esteem.
With backgrounds in botany and fine art, we take plant extracts from the ancient Scottish land and coastline and blend them with the finest ethically sourced ingredients to create an unforgettable skincare experience, made to nourish skin and soul.
OUR ROOTS
Our heart-led brand story begins in the Borders of Scotland, where we grew up surrounded by art and nature. We were free range kids who would head to the river with a collie dog and a third hand canoe, returning home as daylight faded.
Our mother made preserves with homegrown produce, and we made potions of our own from hedgerow plants and extracts. Our Dad created landscape-inspired sculpture and, ahead of his time, plastic was banned.
WHY THE RAVEN?
As children we walked the riverbank after school, rescuing crows from traps and mending broken wings at home. On two occasions these characterful, intelligent birds stayed with our family long term, becoming an important and fun part of our family!
Silhouettes of soaring birds were also a recurring theme in our father’s early sculptures, and now form the basis of our brand identity.
OUR VALUES
HIGH PERFORMANCE
We create beautiful products that are a pleasure to use, but most importantly WORK to address skin concerns. We don't use product bases and 'flavour' with essential oils or use white label ready-made formulations. Everything we make is formulated and handmade by us in our rural East Lothian studio.
PLANET POSITIVE
We partner with Ecologi to plant a tree for each product we sell and also make regular product donations to Women's Aid. We use many UK grown ingredients and support ethical supply chains for ingredients grown outside the UK. We also use circular ingredients like grape seed and raspberry seed oils in our luxurious products.
RESPONSIBLY SOURCED
From golden sea buckthorn hand-picked on the ancient East Lothian coastline to Scottish lavender grown just sixty miles away, we source ingredients locally and from the UK, where possible. UK grown ingredients we use include white poppy, arvensis, hemp, blackcurrant, sea buckthorn, borage, nettle, lavender and rosemary.
VEGAN & CRUELTY FREE
We are proudly accredited by Cruelty Free International and endorsed by the Compassionate Shopping Guide and will never use ingredients that have been tested on animals - or test our own products on animals. All of our products are vegan.
PALM OIL FREE
As well as being bad for biodiversity and eroding small farming communities, palm production is a major cause of deforestation, habitat loss, soil degradation and greenhouse gas emissions. Raven Botanicals is a palm oil free company.
REUSE, REFILL, RECYCLE
We supply our products in widely recyclable materials like glass and aluminium and all of our pumps and droppers are reusable. Our packaging is deliberately simple and we protect your products in transit with biodegradable plant-based packing peanuts which dissolve on contact with water.
